Hello! (Joni)

 Where to start!?! Shall we get the pleasantries out of the way? I’m Joni and this is my daughter, Abby. We’re pleased to meet you!

I’m a stay at home mama who loves Jesus, coffee, my husband, my kids, coffee, ALL things family and the idea of homesteading. Did I already mention coffee???😆 
This blog started out as just an idea and conversation between my daughter and I. The longer we talked, it became abundantly (like how I did that 😉) clear that it was more than just an idea; it was destiny. Kidding! I don’t believe in destiny. BUT I do believe that we were created with purpose, for a purpose, by God, Who loves each of us more than we can imagine. And that is something worth sharing!
Abby has discovered that she has a passion for coffee…I mean ALL things homesteading (although she does share my love for a good cup of Joe too). 😆 She loves Jesus, family, knowledge, a good book, serving others and the list could go on. But I’ll let her tell you more!
Our hope is that you will join us on our journey as we grow our own food, learn life lessons along the way and seek to be an encouragement to you on your journey - wherever that takes you! So grab a cup of coffee (or tea if you must), pull up a chair and join us as we become Rooted in Abundant Hope!!

Recently, my husband and I celebrated 19 years of marriage. It doesn't seem possible that it's been that long...at all. I remember praying for my future husband, confident that God had a young man out there for me. I was in my early 20's when we met. I thought I'd meet my husband at church, maybe youth group, a church activity, friend of a friend, etc... Nope! We met on an online dating site. Someone from our church had mentioned it was like the modern day writing letters. With in a day or two of being paired with each other, we were talking on the phone for hours at a time. Seeds of Hope (Abby)

I'VE GOT SOME GREAT NEWS!!! Our onions sprouted!!!! At least some of them did 😁. Mom and I were in the kitchen on Friday and I was watering some of the onion plants when I saw GREEN!!! I was so excited I may or may not have squealed (ok, I totally did). Mom joined in my excitement and we stood there for several minutes, leaning as close as possible to the surface of the soil in hopes of glimpsing more green sprouts. I was thinking about it later, and I feel like there is kind of an underlying meaning in the joy we feel when we saw the first sprouts. Most seeds need darkness in order to germinate, or sprout. In the darkness, buried under soil, is where conditions are ideal for the previously dormant plant inside the hard seed case to push through and reach for the light. This same process can be felt by us as humans too, right?  What I mean is sometimes we're surrounded by darkness, perhaps even spiritually. Roses Are Ugly...or Are They? (Joni)

Happy Valentine's Day!! How fitting to be talking about flowers. That was NOT planned. But I'm just going to go with it HA! Abby works for a flower shop 2 days a week - they mostly sell roses. It's a sweet little shop and the people she works with are just as sweet. The roses are beautiful and range in color from white, to pink, to red with some even being a combination of those colors. I had the opportunity to help her for a few days leading up to Valentine's Day. It was so much to be with my daughter and experience what her work days are like. I helped clean the flowers. I honestly didn't even know that was a thing but it consists of pulling off the outer petals and examining the center of the rose to make sure it's a healthy rose and that it will open properly. Each rose is unique. From the the way the petals grow, to the exact shape of each petal, the damage received during shipping, how big or small the petals are, etc...
